This is a talk entitled “Precarity, intergenerational equity, and the deteriorating youth labour market in Canada.” This is video of a talk that I recently gave at Glendon College in Toronto. The talk has two parts. The first covers theoretical tools for assessing the position of youth with the Canadian labour market; concepts such as social location, intergenerational equity, and inclusive inequality are discussed. The second part surveys the economic scarring that’s occurring to youth via an examination of the changes happening in the new economy via trends such as globalization, commodification of post-secondary education, and the rise of the knowledge economy.
